Melbourne Photographic
Society has been in existence since 1921 and is the longest established civic
organisation in Melbourne, South
Derbyshire.
The Society's season of meetings runs from late
September to late April and it meets every Thursday evening (with the odd
exception) from 19:30 hours until 22:00
hours in the Thomas Cook Memorial Hall, High Street, Melbourne (picture below). The hall is opposite Doves Garage and you can find a map here.

Membership is open to all regardless of their level of
photographic expertise. Melbourne Photographic Society prides itself on being a
friendly organisation and visitors and new members are always made to feel
welcome. Some of our members are active or retired professional photographers,
whilst others are just learning the basics - and with a whole range in between.
The Society has an active programme of visiting
speakers, internal and external competitions and members' nights. Our social
side is also active - so much so that even out of season, members meet up every
week (usually at a local pub) and also plan photographic outings.
Members pay an annual membership fee of £27.50. One of the benefits of
membership is that members can borrow some of the Society's equipment for short
periods. One of our most requested items is the Spyder - a device for
calibrating your computer monitor so that what appears on your printer or from
the photolab is more like what you see on the screen.
Visitors are also welcome and pay a visitors' fee of £2.50 per session. This
includes tea or coffee and biscuits during the interval.
So if you are interested but wary about parting with your hard earned cash for
a whole season's membership, why not come along as a visitor for a couple of
meetings before making up your mind.
